The Autism Speaks’ Fort Wayne Walk Now for Autism is a fund raising event that allows families who are affected with autism to participate in a safe and fun environment. The walks will commence on Saturday September 27th at Foster Park (3900 Broadway St.).
Those who want to participate will need to register between 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. The opening ceremonies will begin at 10:00 and the walk at 11:00.
The day includes a two-mile walk and community resource fair with 22 educational sources, therapists, schools, recreational organizations and creative child-friendly activities. Thousands of walkers – including individuals with autism, their families and friends — will join together to raise much-needed funds for critical scientific research and to increase awareness about autism that now affects 1 in every 150 children.
The proceeds from the walk will help Autism Speaks – which has quickly become the nation’s leading advocacy organization for families and children affected by the disease. They are hoping to raise close to $75,000 (if not more) during the 2008 Fort Wayne walk. Walks all across the nation are looking to raise more then $32 million.
